The area of Adolescent counseling is the most active one of various counseling activities in Korea. An adolescent, who is in development stage, is usually very receptive of counseling and therefore is able to produce desirable effects. But it is unfortunate that few studies on characteristic adolescent counsel been conducted and this has resulted in a low interest of counseling student and practitioners have taken the area hard and difficult.
The study aims at estabilishing counseling theory for adolescent. It deals with subjects of adolescents, their significant ´others and their surrounding. And also it tries to do comprehensive definition of counselor´s helping activity, involving counseling, advice, training, surrounding circumstance management for solving adolescent problem, for the prevention, correction and education. The aim, subeject, method of counseling are discussed in a separate and consecutive way, as well as the role of counselor.
Finally, it suggests some priority projects for the development of adolescent counseling area, which are correct analysis of real problems, proposal of ideal image of adolescent, accumulation of pragmatical, experimental study results on the counseling process and technique, development of counseling model suitable for Korean adolescents, and correlation of multi-setting counseling.
